Concert at the Memorial

More than 2,000 visitors attended the event presented by the Association for the Memorial to the Murdered Jews of Europe, witnessing a unique world premiere. Composer Harald Weiß was commissioned to write a work especially for this occasion. It was conducted by Lothar Zagrosek.

Among the visitors were many supporters and helpers for the concert on May 9, 2008, a benefit for the donation campaign "Room of Names 60 x 6.000".

Prominent visitors and sponsors from culture, business and politics were represented just as much as young people, whose volunteering and activities helped make the side program of the concert possible.

The musicians were conducted by Lothar Zagrosek, aided by an optical and acoustic system.

Young People’s Reading Project as side program of the concert

The Association of Catholic Youth presented a reading program at the Memorial to the Murdered Jews of Europe. The young people wished to study questions connected with the holocaust, as this topic is kept in the public view, unfortunately, due to violence by politically right-wing offenders. Quotation: "We want to create a signal that the holocaust is something which young people and adults in the Catholic Church must deal with, and that it must never be repeated."

Mezzo-soprano Tanja Simic Queiroz

Selma Meerbaum-Eisinger, born on August 15, 1925 in Czernowitz, died on December 16, 1942 in the SS-directed work camp Mihailowska.

Donations raised at the event will benefit the Campaign 60 x 6,000 for the “Room of Names”, in order to complete further biographies of Jewish victims of the Holocaust. Thank you again for your attendance and your donations.
