Käthe Loewenthal wurde am 27. März 1878 in Berlin geboren. Sie war die älteste Tochter des jüdischen Augenarztes Wilhelm Loewenthal und seiner Frau Clara. Im Alter von 14 Jahren ließ Käthe sich protestantisch taufen und konfirmieren. Um die Jahrhundertwende studierte sie Kunst und verdiente ihren Lebensunterhalt mit Auftragsarbeiten. Von 1912 bis 1935 verbrachte die Malerin ihre Sommer auf Hiddensee, wo zahlreiche Landschaftsbilder entstanden. 1933 musste sie ihr Stuttgarter Atelier schließen und durfte nicht mehr ausstellen. Am 26. April 1942 wurde sie in das Durchgangslager Izbica deportiert. Dort verliert sich die Spur von Käthe Loewenthal.

Käthe Loewenthal was born on March 27th, 1878 in Berlin. She was the oldest daughter of the Jewish eye doctor Wilhelm Loewenthal and his wife, Clara. At the age of 14, Käthe converted to Protestantism, was baptized and confirmed. Around the turn of the century she studied art and earned a living as a painter by commission. From 1912 to 1935, the artist spent her summers on the Island of Hiddensee, where she painted many landscapes. In 1933 she was forced to close her studio in Stuttgart and was barred from showing her work in exhibitions. On April 26th, 1942 she was deported to the Izbica transit camp. There, all trace of Käthe Loewenthal is lost.
