Mania Ankielewicz

Mania Ankielewicz lived in the Polish town of Złoczew, near what was then the German border. During the invasion of Poland in September 1939, the German Wehrmacht occupied the town. By November 1939 the majority of the Jewish population was forced to resettle in the adjoining General Government for the occupied Polish areas. Those Jews remaining in the town were deported to the Kulmhof extermination camp in May and June 1942, and poisoned with engine exhaust fumes in gas vans. Mania Ankielewicz was never heard from again.
