Ilona Cincar

Ilona Cincar lived in the Romanian town of Oradea, a centre of Jewish life in the border region between Romania and Hungary. In March 1944 the town was occupied by the German Wehrmacht. More than 21, 000 Jews lived there at the time. Together with the other Jews of the region, they immediately were forced to move into a ghetto. In May 1944, members of the Eichmann Special Commando and Hungarian police began liquidating the ghetto and deporting its inhabitants to the Auschwitz Extermination Camp. In all likelihood, Ilona Cincar was asphyxiated there, with Zyklon B poison gas.
