Khaya Levin

ermordet 1941 in Zembin

Khaya Levin stammte aus Zembin, einem Dorf nordöstlich von Minsk in Weißrussland, in dem die Hälfte der Bewohner Juden waren. Viele von ihnen arbeiteten in den umliegenden Kolchosen. Im Juli 1941 marschierte im Gefolge der Wehrmacht die deutsche Sicherheitspolizei in das Dorf ein. Sie drängte die jüdischen Bewohner in ein Ghetto. Am 18. August 1941 trieben die Polizisten alle Juden vor das Dorf und erschossen die 900 Männer, Frauen und Kinder. Dabei erhielten sie Unterstützung aus der örtlichen Bevölkerung. Unter den Opfern war auch Khaya Levin.


Khaya Levin came from Zembin, a village northeast of Minsk in Belarus, in which half the population was Jewish. Many of them worked in the collective farms in the area. In July 1941, German Security Police marched into the village, following the arrival of the Wehrmacht. They forced the Jewish inhabitants to move into a ghetto. On 18 August 1941 the Police drove all the Jews out of the village and shot all 900 men, women and children. The local population assisted the murderers. Among the victims was Khaya Levin.
