Estera Rojzner was born on 27 January 1941 in Warsaw, the capital of Poland. With the arrival of German troops in September 1939, the Jews of Warsaw were steadily deprived of their property and rights. In October 1940 the occupiers cordoned off a part of the city and declared it a ghetto. All Warsaw’s Jews had to resettle there, and from that point on lived within this extremely limited area, under catastrophic conditions.
