Chaja Yafak

Haushälterin ermordet 1942 in Sokoly/Sokoły

Chaja Yafak lebte in der polnischen Kleinstadt Sokoły am Fluss Narew. Sie war die Haushälterin eines Arztes. Im Sommer 1941 besetzte die Wehrmacht den Ort. Um der drohenden Deportation zu entgehen flohen viele Juden in die umliegenden Wälder. Die meisten der Verbliebenen wurden von Einsatzgruppen der SS und Polizei in das Vernichtungslager Treblinka verschleppt und dort mit Motorabgasen vergiftet. Chaja Yafak wurde auf dem Friedhof von Sokoły erschossen.


Chaja Yafak lived in the small Polish town of Sokoły, on the River Narew. She was a housekeeper for a medical doctor. In the summer of 1941 the Wehrmacht occupied the town. Many Jews fled into surrounding forests to escape deportation. Police and SS mobile killing units, deported most of those who had remained behind to the Treblinka Extermination Camp and poisoned them with engine exhaust fumes. Chaja Yafak was shot at the Sokoły cemetery.
