Mindl Finkler

ermordet 1942 in Treblinka (VL)

Mindl Finkler wohnte im polnischen Szydłowiec. In dem Schtetl waren über 70 Prozent der Bewohner Juden. Viele von Ihnen arbeiteten in der örtlichen Bekleidungsindustrie oder den örtlichen Minen. Im September 1939 marschierte die Wehrmacht ein. Die SS errichtete ein Ghetto, das fast die Hälfte der Stadt umfasste. Bald lebten dort über 10.000 Frauen, Männer und Kinder aus Szydłowiec und der Umgebung. Ab Herbst 1942 deportierte die SS sie nach Treblinka und vergiftete sie mit Motorabgasen. Eines der Opfer war Mindl Finkler.


Mindl Finkler lived in the Polish town of Szydłowiec. More than 70 percent of the shtetl’s inhabitants were Jewish. Many of them worked in the local clothing industry or in the local mines. In September 1939 the Wehrmacht entered the area. The SS set up a ghetto that encompassed almost half of the town. Soon, more than 10,000 women, men and children from Szydłowiec and the surrounding area were living within the ghetto’s confines. Starting in the autumn of 1942, the SS deported the Jews to Treblinka and asphyxiated them with engine exhaust fumes. Mindl Finkler was among the victims.
