Josef Neuman

ermordet 1942 in Belzec/Bełżec (VL)

Josef Neuman wurde 1931 geboren. Er lebte in dem kleinen polnischen Ort Biecz am Fuße der Karpaten. Im September 1939 besetzte die Wehrmacht Biecz. Im Frühjahr 1942 mussten die jüdischen Bewohner des Ortes und der näheren Umgebung in ein Ghetto ziehen. Am 14. August 1942 trieben deutsche und ukrainische Polizisten alle Juden auf einen Platz und sperrten sie anschließend in Baracken. Vier Tage mussten sie ohne Verpflegung ausharren, ehe sie in das Vernichtungslager Belzec deportiert wurden. Josef Neuman starb dort im Alter von 11 Jahren.


Josef Neuman was born in 1931. He lived in the small Polish town of Biecz at the foot of the Carpathian Mountains. In September 1939 the Wehrmacht occupied Biecz. In the spring of 1942 the Jews of the town and outlying area had to move into a ghetto. On 14 August 1942, German and Ukrainian police drove all the Jews into a public square and than locked them into barracks. They had to endure four days without any provisions before being deported to the Belzec Extermination Camp. Josef Neuman died there, at the age of 11.
