Miriam Normant wurde 1925 in Czernowitz geboren. Die Stadt war ein Zentrum des Judentums in Südosteuropa und gehörte nach dem ersten Weltkrieg zu Rumänien. Etwa 50.000 Juden lebten dort. 1940 fiel Czernowitz an die Sowjetunion, ein Jahr später wurde es wiederum von deutschen und rumänischen Truppen besetzt. Damit begann die systematische Ermordung der Czernowitzer Juden. Der rumänische Diktator Antonescŭ verfügte im Oktober 1941 die Deportation der Juden aus der Bukowina in den rumänisch besetzten Teil der Ukraine. Viele von ihnen starben in den dortigen Ghettos. Die Umstände des Todes von Miriam Normant sind nicht bekannt.

Miriam Normant was born in 1925 in the town of Chernivtsi, a centre of Jewish life in south-eastern Europe. After World War I, the city was part of Romania. It was home to about 50,000 Jews. In 1940, Chernivtsi fell under Soviet control; a year later it was reoccupied by German and Romanian troops. This marked the start of the systematic murder of Chernivtsi’s Jewish population. In October 1941, the Romanian dictator Ion Antonescŭ ordered the deportation of the Jews of Bukovina to the Romanian-occupied part of Ukraine. Many of them died in the ghettos there. The circumstances of Miriam Normant’s death are unknown.
