Martha Berl

Martha Berl wurde am 15. Oktober 1868 in Jägerndorf geboren. Unmittelbar nach der Annexion des Sudetenlandes durch das Deutsche Reich am 1. Oktober 1938 begann die Verfolgung der Juden. Nach dem Novemberpogrom und der Errichtung von improvisierten Lagern lebten 1939 nur noch 33 Juden im Landkreis Jägerndorf. Die SS deportierte die 74-Jährige in das Ghettolager Theresienstadt. Dort starb Martha Berl anderthalb Jahre später am 5. Mai 1944. Sie war 75 Jahre alt.

Martha Berl was born on 15 October 1868 in Jägerndorf. Shortly after the German Reich annexed the Sudetenland on 1 October 1938, the persecution of the Jews began. In 1939, after the Kristallnacht Pogrom of November 1938, and the installation of improvised camps, there were only 33 Jews left in the Jägerndorf district. The SS deported the 74 year old to the Theresienstadt ghetto camp. Martha Berl died there one and a half years later, on 5 May 1944. She was 75 years old.
