Der Zimmermann Jakow Papisz wurde 1914 in Pińsk geboren. Zu Beginn des Zweiten Weltkrieges hatte die alte Handelsstadt etwa 17.000 jüdische Einwohner. Am 4. Juli 1941 besetzte die Wehrmacht die im damaligen Osten Polens gelegene Stadt. Einen Monat später begannen SS-Einheiten mit der systematischen Ermordung der Juden. Sie wurden zusammen getrieben und in Gruben vor der Stadt erschossen. Bis zum Ende des Jahres 1942 ermordeten die Besatzer so fast alle Juden von Pińsk. Eines der Opfer war Jakow Papisz. Er wurde 28 Jahre alt.

The carpenter Jakow Papisz was born in 1914 in Pińsk on the River Prypyat,. Before the outbreak of World War II, about 17,000 residents of this old market town in what was then eastern Poland were Jewish. On the 4th of July 1941 the Wehrmacht occupied the city. One month later, SS units began their systematic murder of the Jews, rounding them up and shooting them outside the town. By the end of 1942 the occupying authorities had murdered almost all the Jews of Pińsk. Jakow Papisz was among the victims. He was 28 years old.
