Hedda Friedmannová

Kind, geboren 1932 in Kaschau/Košice/Kassa, ermordet 1944 in Auschwitz-Birkenau (VL)

Hedda Friedmannová wurde am 1. Mai 1932 in Kaschau geboren, einer Stadt im Osten der damaligen Tschechoslowakei. Sie war noch ein Kind, als die deutsche Wehrmacht am 19. März 1944 in die Stadt einmarschierte. Wie alle Kaschauer Juden musste auch Familie Friedmann kurz nach der Besetzung in ein Ghetto ziehen. Im Frühsommer 1944 deportierte die SS die etwa 12000 jüdischen Ghettobewohner in das Vernichtungslager Auschwitz. Dort wurde Hedda Friedmannová unmittelbar nach der Ankunft mit Giftgas ermordet. Sie war 12 Jahre alt.

Hedda Friedmannová was born on the 1st of May 1932 in Košice, a city in what was then eastern Czechoslovakia. She was still a small child when the German Wehrmacht took control of the city on the 19th of March 1944. Like all the Jews of Košice, the Friedmann family had to move into a ghetto shortly after the city was occupied. In early summer 1944 the SS deported the approximately 12,000 Jewish ghetto inmates to the Auschwitz extermination camp, where Hedda Friedmannová was murdered upon arrival with poison gas. She was 12 years old.
