Aaron Levin

Rabbiner und Abgeordneter des Sejm, geboren 1879 in Przemysl/Przemyśl, ermordet 1941 in Lemberg/Lwów/Lwiw

Aaron Levin wurde am 30. Oktober 1879 in der polnischen Stadt Przemyśl geboren. Mit seiner Frau Doba lebte er zunächst in der ostgalizischen Stadt Sambor und später in Rzeszów. In beiden Orten war er als Rabbiner der jüdisch-orthodoxen Gemeinde tätig. Darüber hinaus war Aaron Levin Abgeordneter für die jüdische Partei Agudat Israel im polnischen Parlament. Nach dem Angriff Deutschlands auf die Sowjetunion im Juni 1941 floh er zu seinem Bruder nach Lemberg. Am 30. Juni 1941 wurde Lemberg von der Wehrmacht besetzt. Wehrmachtsangehörige, SS und ukrainische Nationalisten ermordeten umgehend innerhalb von vier Tagen etwa 4.000 Juden. Aaron Levin und sein Bruder wurden am 1. Juli 1941 von deutschen Soldaten im Lemberger Brigidki-Gefängnis gefoltert und anschließend exekutiert. Aaron Levin war 61 Jahre alt.

Aaron Levin was born on October 30th, 1879 in the Polish town of Przemyśl. Together with his wife Doba, he lived at first in the East Galician town of Sambor and later in Rzeszów. In both cities, he worked as a rabbi for the Orthodox Jewish community. In addition, Aaron Levin was a member of the Polish parliament representing the Jewish party Agudat Israel. After the German attack against the Soviet Union in June 1941, he fled to his brother who lived in Lvov. On June 30th, 1941, the Wehrmacht occupied Lvov. During the first four days of occupation, members of the Wehrmacht, SS men and Ukrainian nationalists murdered about 4,000 Jews. On July 1st, 1941, German soldiers tortured and executed Aaron Levin and his brother in the Brigidki prison in Lvov. Aaron Levin was 61 years old.
