Évike Ötvös

ermordet 1944 in Auschwitz-Birkenau (VL)

Évike Ötvös lived in the Hungarian city of Székesfehérvár. After the German Reich occupied Hungary in early 1944, the SS began their systematic persecution of local Jews. At the end of May 1944, 2,700 Jews from the area were forced to move into a temporary ghetto, and then shut into a brick factory outside the city. Shortly afterward, the SS and auxiliary police deported them to the Auschwitz-Birkenau Extermination camp, where almost all of them were asphyxiated with poison gas. Among those murdered was Évike Ötvös.
