Emil Janovits

Emil Janovits lebte zusammen mit seinen Geschwistern in Bol, einem slowakischen Dorf an der ungarischen Grenze. Im November 1938 wurde das Gebiet Ungarn zugesprochen. Damit fielen auch die Juden von Bol unter die antisemitischen Gesetze der ungarischen Regierung. Im Frühjahr 1944 besetzte die Wehrmacht das Land. SS und Polizeieinheiten drängten auch die Familie Janovits in ein Ghetto. Von dort wurden sie in das Vernichtungslager Auschwitz deportiert und wahrscheinlich gleich nach ihrer Ankunft mit Giftgas erstickt. Emil Janovits war 11 Jahre alt.

Emil Janovits lived with his siblings in Bol, a Slovakian village on the Hungarian border. In November 1938 the area was handed over to Hungary. And so the Jews of Bol, too, were affected by the Hungarian government’s anti-Semitic laws. In the spring of 1944 the Wehrmacht occupied the country. SS and police units forced the Janovits family to move into a ghetto. They were deported from there to the Auschwitz extermination camp, where they were asphyxiated with poison gas, probably right after arrival. Emil Janovits was 11 years old.
