Israel Goldendrut

Kaufmann, geboren 1898 in Raschkow/Rashkuv, ermordet 1942 in Jassy/Iasi/Iaşi

Israel Goldendrut wurde in Raschkov geboren, einer kleinen Stadt in der Ukraine. Er wurde Kaufmann, heiratete und hatte mit seiner Frau Chaikis zwei Kinder. Die Familie zog nach Sculeni, einer Stadt im benachbarten Rumänien. Im Juni 1940 wurden alle Juden des Ortes in die große Stadt Jassy vertrieben. Als ein Jahr später rumänische und deutsche Truppen die Sowjetunion angriffen, galten Juden als kommunistische Kollaborateure. Tagelang tobte in Jassy ein Pogrom, dem Tausende von Juden zum Opfer fielen. Auch Israel Goldendrut kam in dieser Gewaltwelle ums Leben. Er wurde 44 Jahre alt.


Israel Goldendrut was born in Rashkov, a small city in the Ukraine. He was a businessman, and he and his wife, Chaikis, had two children. The family moved to Sculeni, a city in nearby Romania. In June, 1940, all the local Jews were forced to move to the large city of Iasi. When Romanian and German troops attacked the Soviet Union a year later, as part of the German campaign, Jews were assumed to be communist collaborators. The ensuing pogroms in Jassy lasted for days, and thousands of Jews were killed. Israel Goldendrut was one of those who died in this wave of violence. He was 44.
