Frida Bretler

Frida Bretler lebte in Stanislau, einer damals polnischen Stadt im Karpatenvorland. In den 1930er Jahren war ein Drittel der 72.000 Einwohner jüdisch. Im Sommer 1941 besetzten deutsche Truppen Stanislau. Im Oktober wurden die Juden der Stadt in Kolonnen von 250 Menschen zum jüdischen Friedhof getrieben und dort von SS-Männern und Polizisten erschosen. 12. 000 Menschen fielen dieser »Aktion« zum Opfer. Eines davon war Frida Bretler.


Frida Bretler lived in the town of Stanisławów in the foothills of the Carpathian mountains, then part of Poland. In the 1930s, a third of the town’s 72,000 residents were Jewish. German troops occupied the town in the summer of 1941. In October 1941 the town’s Jews were forced to walk in columns of 250 people to the Jewish cemetery, where the SS and police shot them. 12,000 people were murdered. One of the victims was Frida Bretler.
