Berta Lion wurde 1896 in Esseg geboren, dem heute kroatischen Osijek. Etwa 3000 Juden lebten dort vor Beginn des Zweiten Weltkriegs. Berta Lion und ihr Mann zogen nach Zagreb. Im April 1941 marschierte die Wehrmacht in Jugoslawien ein. Im kroatischen Landesteil entstand ein vom Deutschen Reich abhängiger Staat, der Minderheiten systematisch verfolgte. Berta Lion wurde in das Konzentrationslager Jasenovac verschleppt. Ob sie erschossen wurde oder an den elenden Bedingungen im Lager starb, ist nicht bekannt. Berta Lion war etwa 45 Jahre alt.

Berta Lion was born in 1896 in Esseg, now called Osijek, and located in present-day Croatia. About 3,000 Jews were living there before the outbreak of World War II. Berta Lion and her husband moved to Zagreb. In April 1941 the Wehrmacht marched into Yugoslavia. The Croatian region became a state dependent on the German Reich, where minorities were systematically persecuted. Berta Lion was deported to the Jasenovac concentration camp. It is not known whether she was shot there, or died as a result of the terrible conditions. Berta Lion was about 45 years old.
