Maurycy Drutowski

Maurycy Drutowski wurde 1867 in Tschenstochau geboren. Er studierte Maschinenbau an der Universität in Zürich. Nach dem Abschluss zog er in die polnische Industriestadt Lodz, wo er eine Fabrik für Elektrogeräte gründete. Anfang September 1939 besetzte die Wehrmacht die Stadt. Kurz danach begann die deutsche Verwaltung mit der Konzentration aller Juden im Armenviertel Bałuty. Der Ghettoalltag war von Zwangsarbeit geprägt. Krankheiten, Hunger und Kälte forderten Tausende Todesopfer. Auch Maurycy Drutowski starb am 1. April 1942 im Alter von 75 Jahren.

Maurycy Drutowski was born in 1867 in the town of Czestochowa. He studied engineering at the University of Zurich. After graduating, he moved to the Polish industrial centre of Lodz, where he founded a factory for producing electrical appliances. In early September 1939 the Wehrmacht occupied the city, and soon the German administration began to concentrate all the Jews in the poor district, Bałuty. Life in the ghetto was dominated by forced labour. Thousands died of disease, hunger and cold. One of the victims was Maurycy Drutowski. He died on 1 April 1942 at the age of 75.
